Beach season is upon us, and we asked the folks in the newsroom to share with us their own beach-related Five Faves! Five on Your Side's Monica Laliberte gave us her Five Favorite Beach restaurants last year, and this year we had to revisit the topic again:
Freddie's (Kure Beach) – A family-owned Italian restaurant. Barb's salad dressing is delicious, the red sauce is my favorite...especially on the chicken parmesan. And the pork chops smothered in pecans and peaches are pretty tasty!
The Kure Beach Pier's history started with L. C. Kure, who built the first pier in 1923. His grandson, Mike, has owned the pier since 1984. The current Kure Beach Pier is 750-feet long and 22-feet wide. It stands 25-feet above the sea.
Jack Mackerels (Kure Beach) – Another one of my favorite dinner spots. Jack Mackarals serves up fresh fish in generous portions.
Surfhouse (Carolina Beach) –  Surfhouse has interesting, fresh menu items like the citrus tuna salad (ranks right there with Mitch's as the best tuna salad ever). The smoked turkey cuban, peach mint lemonade, and sides to die for!
Connie Mitchell sent this photo taken at Carolina Beach after the worst of Irene had passed.
Ocean Grill Tiki Bar (Carolina Beach) – Simply because you can enjoy a burger, chicken sandwich or fish tacos right there on the pier overlooking the ocean. It's the best view on the beach!
Britts Donuts (Carolina Beach) – It's a donut shop.. But if you go...it counts as a restaurant meal because you will eat a dozen!

Look for more of our Five Faves Beach picks throughout the summer!
