Monday Wrap: Still waiting for Godot
The General Assembly has turned into a giant waiting room, only without the months-old issues of "Field & Stream" and "Good Housekeeping."
Posted — UpdatedThe House once again didn't take up its omnibus gun bill or hold a veto override vote on Senate Bill 2, the measure that would allow magistrates and county employees opposed to same-sex marriage to opt out of presiding over weddings or issuing marriage licenses. The gun bill was pulled from the floor calendar Monday night and sent back to the House Rules Committee, while the latter has lingered on the calendar for days now without any action.
Even the so-called "biscuit bill," which would allow convenience stores that serve food to install seating, couldn't make it out of the House. It was re-calendared for Tuesday.
The House Regulatory Reform Committee did approve a proposal that would prevent cities and towns from dictating home design features through zoning rules. That will head to the floor on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Senate still hasn't rolled out its budget proposal – only 22 days remain until the end of the fiscal year – or a much-anticipated tax and economic development proposal.
