Monday Wrap: Many came but all were quiet

The first Moral Monday protest of the legislative session was a quiet one as hundreds made their way into the legislative building with tape covering their mouths - an effort to prevent being accused of being loud enough to disrupt conversations under new building rules passed last week.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The first Moral Monday protest of the legislative session was a quiet one as hundreds made their way into the legislative building with tape covering their mouths – an effort to prevent being accused of being loud enough to disrupt conversations under new building rules passed last week.

No arrests were made as organizers were seen talking with State Capitol Police, seemingly in an effort to be cooperative.

Carolina Rising, a group started by Dallas Woodhouse to support the GOP, held a small press conference on Monday. Speaker Pro Tempore Paul Stam, R-Wake, described the group as “a start in the constellation of good groups” during the press conference.

There was little legislative action on Monday but things are expected to pick up Tuesday. The House is expected to discuss a tax bill that includes the privilege license tax cap and e-cigarettes tax. The Senate is expected to pass a bill for military appreciation day.
