Monday Wrap: And so it begins

Posted April 25, 2016

— The House and the Senate began their 2016 legislative session on Monday – only after a day filled with rallies for and against House Bill 2.

The day ended with a sit-in at the Legislative Building that resulted in the arrests of several people opposed to the law.

Four House Democrats filed a bill to repeal House Bill 2, but House Speaker Tim Moore said Republican leadership isn't interested in a repeal.

Outside of House Bill 2, a federal judge upheld the voter ID law and ruled that out-of-precinct voting won't be allowed after the June 7 congressional primary.
