Monday Wrap: A-one and a-two and a-three

Posted May 9, 2016

— Three court actions over House Bill 2 were filed within six hours of each other Monday, with Gov. Pat McCrory and legislative leaders seeking judicial defense of the controversial law and the U.S. Department of Justice seeking a ruling to halt its enforcement.

McCrory said the Justice Department is trying to rewrite laws by saying transgender people are protected under the federal Civil Rights Act, while U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch said they are clearly protected and rebuked North Carolina for creating "state-sponsored discrimination."

Outside of running to the courthouse over House Bill 2, state lawmakers heard a proposal about raising their per diem and travel reimbursement, which haven't changed since the 1990s.
