Monday, Tuesday on the Neuse: Secluded riverway hums with life

This run of the river is beautiful. It's rather secluded, and we passed under just two roads the entire day.

Monday night was spent on the deck of an education forest. Owls hooted and wild hogs squealed through the night.

Tuesday morning was fantastic. We took off from camp about 8 a.m. We paddled the Neuse River through Johnston and in to Wayne County.

This run of the river is beautiful. It’s rather secluded, and we passed under just two roads the entire day.

Off in the woods, we heard what sounded like rapids or a waterfall. When we turned to look, we saw a herd of deer running through the shallow flood water.

Camping Tuesday near Goldsboro and on to Seven Springs Wednesday.
