This is where some children negative behavior starts from and it's called HOME. The parent should have respectfully set up a conference with the teacher and spoken to the teacher concerning the child's issue. If she (the parent) wasn't satisfied with the conference she had with the teacher, she should have followed the chain of command and went to the principal and or superintendent. There is always a way to do things and she could have gotten better results being professional about it instead of having her name on the news (in a negative way). Or maybe she doesn't know how to be professional.

dataclerk - I can't respond to comments like yours. I have to be objective in my assessments. There are so many teachers like me out there who only want to see their students excel, not just to survive. You probably can't see the difference between those two comments. I have yet to figure out what you're talking about. I'm beginning to see that our education system isn't a recent failure.

dataclerk -- I think you may have misinterpreted Raptor's comments. I'm guessing what he means is that he treats his students the way that he would want other teachers to treat his own son or daughter. I don't think he has nefarious plans for his students.

It sounds like you did a great job with your children. I've taught for 20 years and I definitely see a difference in some parents. Most of my students are excellent and have caring parents, but I have some parents like Raptor's who don't take care of their own children. They don't think twice that I am buying their supplies, providing a snack, or finding places who might donate eye glasses so the child can see the board or read his textbook. Fortunately, this is not true of most of my students.

    Stupid parents begat stupid children.

Are all teachers perfect? Absolutely not. But if you, as a parent, have a difficult time controlling your one or two children...how do you think a teacher feels trying to control 80-100 kids in a day?

I find it difficult to believe that teachers deliberately chastises a child for absolutely no reason. Yeah, thats why we went to school for 4-5 years and get a degree and teach just so we can pick on YOUR child. Some of these comments by parents are pathetic and typical. If you think your child does absolutely nothing wrong, you aren't spending nearly enough time with your child.

I call home to parents to discuss issues I have with their child and most of them won't even call me back. Most don't care as long as the child is not home, bothering them.

If you have an issue with your childs teacher, you have 3 options...meet with teacher and Principal; move your child to a school you feel is more appropriate; HOME SCHOOL your child.

I see Raptor06 don't have nothing to say after I made my comment of standing. Parents keep and out for this teacher especially your daughters. Don't be so trust worthy just because he is a teacher. That would be a big mistake.

You people realize that there are 78 comments on this story which is only 2 sentences long?

Raptor06: I stand by my comments. Your words are in vain to me. I am so thankful you were not my children's teacher. Nevertheless, I am also thankful surrogate parents to my children. You are probably using these kids to make some kind of name for yourself. I am certainly not impressed at all by what you say or mean. You really need to get in the real world. I see it every day. If you are doing so much, sweetie, how come so many young especially is winding up in prison? Exactly what are you teaching them for some to go in that direction. Lets don't forget about drugs etc. You need not say more, its not necessary. If you do your job teaching, then what is your problem?
