Mom accused of using son, 14, as designated driver

Posted March 23, 2009

— Johnston County sheriff's deputies charged an Angier woman with child abuse for allegedly using her 14-year-old son as a designated driver last Thursday afternoon.

Deputies pulled over Angel Gale Montayne, 39, of Massengill Pond Road, after she turned on a dirt path to avoid a checkpoint, said Tammy Amaons, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office.

When they stopped the car, deputies found her 14-year-old son in the driver's seat, Montayne in the front passenger seat and her 14-year-old stepdaughter in the back seat, Amaons said.

Deputies charged Montayne with two counts of child abuse and impaired supervision of a child. She was released from the Johnston County Jail under a $5,000 bond.

tbone......NOT such a good job. She didn't swap till she thought she was going to get CAUGHT...not for SAFETY. Bad Mom!
Duh, Mom....If she makes the kids do stuff like that, it kinda makes me wonder what else she doesn't do right...like raise her children/stepchildren.

tlbone56.....I think you should be in the same cell as this drunk! After she puts in some jail time, she should in verified rehab. No good points for letting her innocent child getting behind the wheel. what a bum!

How can she go out and get drunk with her children in the first place? Sounds like she rather be out drinking then at home caring for her children. Taking them with you to get drunk is not good mothering as she may think so!

So she switched places with him in a stopped car?

  • tlbone56 Mar 24, 2009

Chivegas said it well. You're damned if you do, damned if you don't. Obviously the kid knew how to drive, and his mom was in the car with him. Had mom hit and killed somebody, everybody would be outraged. Good job mom!
