Rain, possible scattered storms enter central NC Tuesday afternoon

"We're transitioning into a wetter pattern, and we're going to have plenty of rain to deal with over the next several days," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

Scattered thunderstorms are also a possibility in the central and eastern parts of the state Tuesday afternoon, Gardner said.

“I don’t think we’re going to end up with any severe weather, but certainly we’re going to have some heavy rain which may cause some localized street flooding,” Gardner said.

Tuesday's rain showers will spread across the area during the morning hours and be scattered throughout the afternoon. Clouds and precipitation will keep temperatures well below normal, as highs will only reach the low 70s by mid-afternoon.

Gardner said wind will also accompany the system trekking through central NC.

The system generating rain across much of the state and across the Mid-Atlantic states will linger across the region Wednesday, Thursday and into the weekend.

"This whole system is going to be with us for the next few days," Gardner said. "Rain and fog could be an issue for the Wednesday morning commute, and more rain is possible later in the week and into the weekend. In fact, Saturday could be extremely wet."

The continued wet pattern will also continue to keep temperatures in the 60s and 70s through Sunday.
