RALEIGH, N.C. — Rain that moved into North Carolina Friday will be staying put overnight, but a better weekend is ahead.

"It looks like this rain is going to move out of here faster than we anticipated, which is good because we have the weekend coming up," WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth said. "But it will be a messy night tonight."

A half-inch of rain could fall in Raleigh by Saturday, but the heaviest bands will stay east of the Triangle and along the coast.

By Saturday morning, the rain will lighten to spotty showers, and the sun should come out by the afternoon.

"We've got some better weather for the second half of Saturday," Wilmoth said.

Highs Sunday will climb into the low 50s under partly cloudy skies.

After another chance of rain on Monday, temperatures will dip into the low 40s for the middle of next week. Lows will bottom out as well, falling into the 20s for several consecutive nights.
