Vegetable garden provides healthy bounty on the cheap

Moe's Southwest Grill and the Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education have teamed up to help students at two local elementary schools learn about gardening.

The second annual Moe's and Poe Garden Grant program will provide $1,000 each to two local elementary schools to either establish a new garden or improve an existing garden at their school. Applications are being accepted through April 13. You can find them at 17 Triangle-area Moe's locations, the Poe Center in Raleigh or on the Poe Center's website

Poe Center staff will pick 10 finalist schools - five without a garden and five with a garden to improve. The finalists will be revealed on the Moe's Triangle Facebook page from April 21 to April 30 for public voting to determine a winning school in each category.

The winning schools will be announced on Moe's Triangle Facebook page on May 2. Last year's winners were Brentwood Elementary School in Raleigh and Willow Springs Elementary School in Willow Spring. Last year's program had nearly 100 nominated schools and more than 6,300 public votes, according to a press release.

Good luck!
