Mobile woman facing manslaughter charge in day care death scheduled for preliminary hearing
Posted September 25
Mobile. AL — Valarie Rena Patterson, 46, of Mobile, is set to appear in court Monday, September 25, for a preliminary hearing.
Patterson faces manslaughter and abuse of a corpse charges in connection to the death of 5-year-old Kamden Johnson, who attended Community Nursery and Preschool Academy, where Patterson worked.
Kamden's body was found dumped in a driveway of a home along Demetropolis Road on August 21.
Last week, Patterson's attorney filed a motion for discovery, asking for access to autopsy reports, photos from the scene, and any other documents pertaining to the little boy's cause of death.
The presiding judge has since issued a order in response to that request denying access to some of those records before Monday's hearing, but indicating the attorney may ask further questions about those documents in the preliminary hearing. The judge went on to explain in the order that the trial judge can make further determinations about the defense's access to those documents.
Patterson's attorney also indicated in the motion, that little Kamden's body could have been moved without Patterson's knowledge, and that there's been no evidence made public to support otherwise.
Several questions could be answered in Monday's hearing, and FOX10 News will be there.
