Missing Tarboro firefighter's body found in river

Posted March 24, 2016

— The body of a Tarboro volunteer firefighter was found Wednesday, 10 days after he disappeared while swimming in a river in Princeville.

Heartsease volunteer firefighter Anthony Brunett went missing on March 13 while he was swimming, according to the Nash County Sheriff's Department. A Nash County reserve sheriff's deputy found Brunett's body while he was fishing in Greenville.

Deputies said the 20-year-old Brunett was fishing with two friends when they decided to go swimming before he disappeared. Rescue crews initially used underwater cameras, sonar and divers in an attempt to locate Brunett.

How awful for the family. The recovery maybe will help with the grieving, but to lose such a young, bright life has got to be the most horrible things to happen to any family. Prayers

May there be peace for Mr. Brunett's family, friends, and fellow firefighters.

As horrifying as the deputy's experience must have been, I hope he or she finds comfort in knowing that that those circumstances helped Mr. Brunett's loved ones put an end to most of the awful questions and let them get to grieving.
