— Raleigh police suspended their search for a missing man, 45, who has a cognitive impairment, on Tuesday after he was found safe.

John Lee Kennedy went missing about 3:30 p.m. in the 7000 block of Brecken Ridge Avenue, police said.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert for Kennedy shortly before 8 p.m. It was canceled after he was found, around 9:15 p.m.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.

He went missing at 3:30, was reported missing at 8 and found at 9:15. Took longer to report him missing than it did to find him.
So glad he was found safely
