Missing Fuquay-Varina woman on her way home

Louise Curtis had been searching for her granddaughter, 29-year-old Tamesha Brown, since Brown walked out of the home they share on May 23. Authorities issued a Silver Alert for Brown because she has mental disabilities and suffers from seizures.

Curtis said Brown called her Thursday morning.

“She called me crying and wanted to know if I would come get her,” Curtis said. “I was so relieved, you can’t imagine.”

Curtis learned that Brown had been staying with a stranger for the last two weeks or so – a woman that had taken her into her Raleigh home and was looking out for her.

The woman saw the story about Brown’s disappearance on WRAL.com and urged Brown to get in touch with her family, Curtis said.

Curtis was especially concerned because Brown left without her medication and her mental disabilities make her vulnerable to exploitation. Brown also left behind a 10-year-old son. Curtis said the boy spoke to his mother on the phone, and she told him she loved him.

Curtis said she plans to take Brown to a hospital Friday to be evaluated since she has been off her medication for a while.

“If her picture hadn’t been out there, I don’t think she would have wanted to come back home,” she said. “I’m just glad that she’s alive.”
