A missing 40-year-old Durham man was found Saturday a week after a Silver Alert was issued for him.

<b>DURHAM, N.C.</b> — A missing 40-year-old Durham man was found Saturday, a week after a Silver Alert was issued for him.

William Carl Whitley Jr. was found safe, police said. A Silver Alert for him was issued last Saturday.

Whitley had last been seen at Grove Park Baptist Church, 108 Trail One in Burlington.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system that quickly notifies the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
