Apex, N.C. — A 73-year-old missing Apex man suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment has been found in Virginia, authorities said.
The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert for Robert Everett Dickinson just after 1 a.m. Monday. It was canceled at 9:30 p.m.
Authorities said Dickinson had been found safely. No other details were released.
Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.
It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
