ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — An accident at a paper mill in Roanoke Rapids injured nine people working for various contractors Saturday, said a mill spokeswoman said.

The accident happened shortly after 9 p.m. at the KapStone Kraft Paper Mill, 100 Gaston Road, said spokeswoman Kimberly Bracy said. She said couldn't disclose more details about the accident.

Nine workers were transported to a local hospital, and seven had been treated and released by late Sunday morning, Bracy said. The identities and conditions of the two still hospitalized haven't been released.

Bracy said the mill is working closely with the contractors to determine the cause of the accident and to put in place more safety measures.

The paper mill is owned by Illinois-based KapStone Paper and Packing Corporation.
