Middlesex man charged in shooting death

Posted September 20, 2012

— A Nash County man was shot to death late Wednesday when another person was loading a handgun, authorities said.

Taylor Michael Samonia, 21, of Strickland Road in Bailey, was at a home in the 3300 block of Old Nash Road in Middlesex when he was shot shortly after 11 p.m., authorities said. By the time deputies arrived, other people were trying to resuscitate Samonia, but paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

After conferring with the Nash County District Attorney's Office, deputies charged Daniel Wayne Griffin, 27, with involuntary manslaughter. He surrendered Thursday afternoon and was released into the custody of his mother.

This was such a horrible accident, I know this family and they are good people. It was an accident and nothing more, these 2 were best friends and my heart breaks for all involved. This family has been through enough and people who don't know them don't need to make assumption's or say bad things. Pls pray for both families.

Daniel my heart breaks for you, yours family as well as Taylor's family. I know this was an accident. As for the people asking questions. These guys were buddies, both paralyzed from seperate accidents and in wheelchairs. They shared stories together and both had very high hopes of once again walking together! These families as well as their friends are having a tough time dealing with this, please don't make it any harder on them with cruel and ridiculous comments.

Not sure why my post didn't go through. My apologies for earlier. When I was typing my post, the article, which I read three times, did not have "was loading a gun". So I apologize for that. Taylor's friends and family need comfort and love and not questions. They are a great family.

They were hunting last night when all this happened

Besides feral hogs and coyotes, what other animals can legally be hunted at night in North Carolina?

A loaded gun again in the wrong hands. Will these people ever learn. My condolences to the family and many friends.

Scubagirl, nowhere in this article does it say a gun was being loaded. Unless you know firsthand, there's no need for speculating. Just pray for Taylor's family and friends during this difficult time.

Horrible accident and condolences to BOTH families.

but, loading a gun at 11PM begs the question Why?
