Michelle Icard, a Charlotte mom and expert on middle schoolers, will be coming to Raleigh for several events over the next few months. (And I'm thrilled as a mom of a rising middle schooler about this development!).
I wrote about Icard and her fantastic book "Middle School Makeover" last year. The book shares all kinds of information about brain development in middle schoolers and how best to handle the ups, downs and drama that can come with this age. (I've actually started thinking "What Would Michelle Do" as I'm handling various situations with my older daughter).

Icard, who has traveled the world to share her information, will be here for several events. One is for parents, one is for girls and one is for moms and daughters. Here's what's scheduled and how to sign up:

  • Icard will make a presentation to parents at Ravenscroft School in north Raleigh at 7 p.m., March 22. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public, but RSVP is required by contacting kathleen.louis@ravenscroft.org or 919-847-0900, ext. 2828.
  • The Athena's Path summer camp for girls who are rising sixth to eight grader is Aug. 8 to Aug. 12 at Ravenscroft. It also is open to the public. The cost is $360 for the week. Athena’s Path is Icard’s curricula to teach girls skills and processes to navigate the middle school social scene. The summer camp is fun and a great way for girls to learn important lessons that will help them lead their own lives, make their own decisions and thrive in middle school.
  • Finally, the Right in the Middle mother/daughter conference, which sells out each year in Charlotte, is 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sept. 25, at the Junior League of Raleigh in downtown Raleigh. This one is for moms and their daughters, who are in middle school or getting ready to start middle school, to help them both celebrate and prepare for the transition to middle school. Tickets are $75.
