Miami-bound American Airlines flight diverted to RDU

An American Airlines flight from New York to Miami was diverted to Raleigh-Durham International Airport on Wednesday afternoon because of a mechanical problem, officials said.

Flight 1769 landed without incident and passengers were put on another plane, RDU spokeswoman Mindy Hamlin said.

The second plane took off around 3 p.m. to deliver passengers to their final destination, she said.
