RALEIGH, N.C. — Students on the third floor of Heilman Residence Hall at Meredith College were forced to leave their rooms recently after bats were found in an exterior wall, according to the school.

"A safe, environmentally friendly process is being used to remove the bats," Meredith College spokeswoman Melyssa Allen said in a statement Wednesday. "All students who live in the residence hall were interviewed, and any who may have been in contact with a bat are receiving health consultations as an extreme precaution."

Meredith officials say there is "a very low risk of any issues" associated with the small number of bats found and that they are erring on the side of caution.
