Mental Exam Ordered for Man in Exploding Bag Case

A Rocky Mount man accused of lighting a homemade explosive outside City Hall has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, authorities said.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A Rocky Mount man accused of lighting a homemade explosive outside City Hall has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, authorities said.

Police said Andrew Hendrix, 24, lit a bag full of spray paint, cooking spray, nails and silverware last week. It caused a small explosion that damaged the City Hall sign.

Hendrix faces numerous charges, including communicating threats and assaulting an officer.
