Men try to rob Cary grandfather
Two men tried to rob a Cary man Friday while he walked with his grandson on Gregory Drive, police said. The suspects got nothing but napkins from the man's pockets, and neither victim was hurt, police said.
Posted — UpdatedPolice said David Kurakula was pushing his grandson, 3, in a stroller just after 8:30 a.m.
Kurakula said two black men wearing hooded sweatshirts approached him. The men appeared to be in their 30s. One searched his pockets while the other tried to take the child from his stroller, Kurakula said. When he screamed, Kurakula said, the suspects fled in a white Ford Ranger.
"He was very scared," Kurakula described. "I was shouting 'Help me! Help me!' He was screaming 'Tada, Tada!' That means grandpa, grandpa. For ten minutes he was shivering."
The suspects got nothing but napkins from Kurakula's pockets, and neither victim was hurt, police said.
Police said the incident appears to be an attempted robbery, but do not believe the suspects were trying to kidnap the child.
