Men sought in Rocky Mount triple shooting

Police were searching for a suspect and an unidentified man after a triple shooting on Popular Street early Sunday left one person in critical condition and injured two others.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Police were searching for a suspect and an unidentified man after a triple shooting on Popular Street early Sunday left one person in critical condition and injured two others.

The victims told police that they were involved in an altercation with Sylvester Ray Andrew at 611 Poplar St. Andrew left but returned with another man around 12:45 a.m., the victims said.

Andrew pulled out a shotgun and started shooting at them, the victims said. The man accompanying him also fired a shotgun in the air, police said.

Police said that Jameine Nicholson and Ladonna Battle were both shot in the abdomen, and Troy Copeland was hit in the left elbow and knee. Desonte Cooper was also assaulted by the men.

Shotgun pellets also damaged a vehicle owned by Brittany Flowers, police said.

Nicholson, Battle and Copeland were transported by to Nash General Hospital. Nicholson was transferred to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. She was listed in critical condition Monday.

Arrest warrants were issued against Andrew for three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and one count each of assault and damage to personal property.

The man who accompanied him has been identified only as "TJ." They both remain at large.

Police said they were last seen driving a red vehicle, possibly a Pontiac Grand Am, east on Ridge Street, toward Falls Road.
