Men charged in Littleton home invasion

Posted July 2, 2010

— Halifax County sheriff's deputies arrested two men suspected of committing a home invasion southeast of Littleton early Friday.

The victim told investigators that two men entered his house in 5000 block of Justice Branch Road, assaulted him and tried to get and use his 20-gauge, single-shot shotgun. Eventually, the victim said, one man took him outside to a shed while the second searched the house.

Investigators charged Courtney James, 19, and Michael Edward Ward, 40, both of Enfield, with first-degree burglary, attempted armed robbery and attempted larceny.

James and Ward were placed in the Halifax County Jail under separate $100,000 bonds. They were both scheduled to appear in court Aug. 4.

State Department of Correction records show that Ward has previous convictions for drug offenses.

Just a shame the homeowner didn't show them the receiving end of that shotgun! I would have and they would be arresting them in the hospital or sending them to the morgue. Glad they caught these thugs!

Must be a slow news day, another Roanoke Rapids story. What's going on with the theater? Maybe this guy could run it with a little stimulus money.

How about adding kidnapping to the charges. He was moved against his will. More of the same faces of crime in Halifax County.

Glad they were apprehended and that the homeowner wasn't injured.

No shots fired? I definitely wasn't the homeowner.

Yep, the younger one has got that head held high. Sees no wrong. At least the older one seems to understand that something wrong has occured, although it appears he is not sure what...
I am not a handgun advocate, too many idiots with handguns, but I may change my mind....
