CLAYTON, N.C. — Clayton police arrested two men Monday in break-in and theft at Smithfield's Chicken 'n Barb-B-Q restaurant, 10414 U.S. Highway 70 Business West.

Police said that shortly after 7 a.m. on Aug. 11, two people forced their way in the drive-through window and pried open a small storage safe. They stole an undisclosed amount of cash and caused $700 worth of damage to the safe.

Afries Sandonicaes Maham, 25, of 11 Waddell Drive in Smithfield, and Dominique Demetris Slater, 21, of 126 Altavista Court in Clayton, both face felony charges of breaking-and-entering, larceny and safe-cracking.

Police said a similar break-in occurred at a Smithfield's restaurant in Smithfield on Aug. 6, but Maham and Slater have not been charged in it.

They were being held in the Johnston County Jail Tuesday under separate $50,000 bonds.

According to state Department of Correction records, both men are on probation, Slater for larceny and Maham for possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

DOC records show that Maham was convicted of assault by pointing a gun, assault on a female and misdemeanor breaking-and-entering in 2004. He was also convicted of four counts of damage to property and one count each of larceny from person and a drug violation in 2000. He received probation in both cases.
