Memorial planned for Chatham teen killed in wreck

— Friends and family will remember Jennifer Katherine Gessner, 16, of Pittsboro, at a service Sunday.

Gessner died Wednesday morning in a wreck in western Chatham County. Authorities said her car crossed the center line and collided with a 1999 Ford F-250 pickup truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup driver, whose name wasn't released, was uninjured, authorities said.

Gessner was schooled at home. She was also enrolled in courses at Chatham County Community College.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday at Emmaus Baptist Church, followed by interment at Chatham Memorial Park.

    These are tragic but the crash fatalities of our young people have declined nationwide 11 staight years. We're trending in the right direction but each is definitely a tragedy.

    Another child dead, from an automobile accident. What in the world is going on with the kids these days and vehicles. I have lost count. It is unbelievable. Im so sorry for this family and this little girl and all of their sorrow right now.
