RALEIGH, N.C.Mecca Restaurant will be celebrating its 85th birthday on Friday with live entertainment.

The event kicks off at 11 a.m. with a ribbon cutting at the downtown Raleigh restaurant.

Guests can get Coca Colas for a nickel, a flashback to 1930s prices. Live entertainment will be performing on both floors throughout the day. After 5 p.m., Hank Sinatra will play an acoustic set.

The Dombalis family opened Mecca Lucheonette on May 1, 1930, at the corner of Fayetteville and Hargett Streets. Seven years later, the restaurant relocated to its current home at 13 E. Martin St.

Several generations of the Dombalis family will be on hand for Friday's celebration. Also on hand for the celebration - the infamous ham that used to sit in the window. It was a mainstay for decades but, now, only makes appearances on special occasions.
