Raleigh, N.C. — Governor-elect Pat McCrory will take the oath of office, and therefore take power, at noon on Jan. 5 in the state Capitol building, according to transition staffers speaking on background.
An official release with more details is expected later today.
McCrory will still have a slate of official inaugural activities on Jan. 11, when the Junior League of Raleigh will host an inaugural ball, and Jan. 12, when McCrory will give his inauguration speech.
Full details are expected later today, but transition staff sources speaking on background said that McCrory will attend a closed-press church service before his inauguration. Events are planned during the time between Jan. 5 and Jan. 12 that include the Western Residence.
Update: Here is the full list of inauguration events from the McCrory transition team:

No, they don't work. What they did was to try and "game' the system. The NAEP test which ranks states according to national test sites, measures students at 4th and 8th grade as well as high school. So what did Florida do? They "redshirt" or fail every questionable 3rd grader BEFORE they have a chance to take the test so that they'll do better after an extra year of preparation. Never mind that these artificial gains soon fade. No one in education believes this nonsense.

And republicans won in NC by using taxpayer money to give huge tax breaks to all their corporate bosses that have bought and paid for them. See how easy witless slander is?
November 20, 2012 5:13 p.m.
Fine. When you "righties" put your money where your mouth is and PAY for all of your pointless trillion dollar wars and billion dollar corporate handouts, I will be happy to pay my share so that my less-fortunate neighbor can have access to healthcare. Deal?
November 20, 2012 5:10 p.m.
Nor should I. Mississippi is last in almost everything, from life expectancy to literacy rates to income levels. Case in point, our general assembly last year tried to study how Florida (a state that scores below NC) runs their educational system rather than how a successful state, like Massachusetts does. Why???????

Stop hating on other states. Geez you libs never give it a break do ya? If you don't like it. get to the back of the NC bus. Next stop- the Carolina Comeback!!

I love how people want to pretend that the Dems do not have big money donors. How much do you think Immelt gave to Obama, or Soros, and on and on. In fact many of the big money people give to both sides, as a way of hedging their bets. Obama won because he is using taxpayer money to buy votes, just as many State level politicians use corrupt unions to remain in office.
too bad we can not get enough conservatives in office to actually fix things.
November 20, 2012 4:11 p.m.
LOL Exactly!"
McCory can spend his first four years blaming the mess left him by Purdue. That should make the lefties quite content. I wish he could figure out a way to make the Lefties pay for all the stuff the want. Unfortunately, simply placing a surtax on registered Dems would not work. They would immediately dodge it by re-registering as Independents or Republicans because they wan the stuff, not the bill to pay for the stuff.

He seems reasonable but many in the GOP dominated general assembly are not. I'm concerned about that a GOP dominated general assembly wil want to make us into another Mississippi.

I did not vote for McCrory. But I do believe he will do a fine job. As mayor, he did a great job and things for the city of Charlotte. For NC he will be even greater. Lets have some positive here. For he is out GOVERNOR now whether you like it or not.
November 20, 2012 3:50 p.m.
Please give the man a break, because it will take a little longer than that.
