McCrory activates emergency team to monitor fuel needs

Posted September 19

— Gov. Pat McCrory is asking agencies in North Carolina to consider ways to conserve fuel in light of a leak from a damaged pipeline in Alabama.

A statement from McCrory's office on Monday said the governor has activated the State Emergency Response Team to coordinate with counties regarding fuel needs. The governor warns motorists to be wary of price gouging, and is asking state agencies to consider ways to limit fuel use, including curtailing non-essential travel for state employees.

The shortage is blamed on a pipeline rupture and leak of at least 252,000 gallons of gas. Colonial Pipeline said it was working around the clock to repair the break. Supplies have either been delivered or are on their way to locations in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina.
