Mayor's Wife Files for School Board

Posted July 6, 2007

— The wife of Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker filed Friday as a candidate for the Wake County Board of Education.

Anne McLaurin, who is a longtime community activist, plans to run for the District 5 seat on the board. Incumbent board member Susan Parry isn't seeking re-election.

Five of nine school board seats are up for election in November.

Meeker also filed as a candidate Friday. He is running for his fourth term as Raleigh mayor.

Dynasties - just what we fought England to get away from. And think about this, you political dweebs, if Hillary gets elected, we will have spent, at a minimum, 24 years with just 2 families in the role of chief executive of this formerly fine nation. That is truly scary.

"The Meeker/McLaurin dynasty is alive and well represented." - insert derisive snort here! Czar Charles Meeker the mighty! That's got a nice ring to it. Thank goodness he rules over a small insignificant backwater whistle stop that no one in their right mind would visit, much less live in.

Just put the fence around Raleigh/Durham downtown and put this type person there. Then charge admission and give it to pay the salaries of these Board members. She will neever win. Trust me. "I Know."

This will get me to move out of Wake County. I am so tired of the socialist WCPSS garbage and this can only fuel their fire.

    Scary comment

She contributed to the Edward's campaign! Enough said. Hope some other candidates will come forward.

Long time community activist?? of what?

Apparently, she's a physician, employed at SAS, has contributed money to the Edwards campaign.

And there's quite a bit else, by googling "Anne McLaurin" Raleigh

Regardless of whether she's liberal, what are the issues facing the School Board, and what are her positions? It isn't about spending, that's the responsibility of the Board of Commissioners. It's about how the money is spent. Unfortunately, given her relationship to the mayor, it may be that she's pro spending money of lavishness at the central office, versus spending where it counts, in the classroom. The current board demonstrated their lack of vision in this area, when they voted to but teacher pay. I would like to know where she stands on this issue.

Anyone whose successfully served on a public school board could possibly rule the world, in my opinion.
    Good luck to McLaurin.
