Thursday, May 4, is almost here ... as in May the Fourth when Star Wars fans revel in all things ... well ... Star Wars.

Here are some Star Wars-themed events scheduled to mark the occasion ...

  • Wake County Public Library locations across the county are hosting all kinds of Star Wars-related special events through Sunday for all ages, including teen trivia; crafts for grade schoolers; and larger celebrations for all ages.
  • Dix Park near downtown Raleigh will screen this movie ... "the most recent prequel to the original classic film trilogy that helps restore and bring justice to the Galaxy." Moviegoers will have to guess exactly what that movie is. But, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with Star Wars. The free screening is set for 8:30 p.m., Thursday. Be sure to bring blankets, chairs and a picnic. (A food truck will be on site too).
  • It's Star Wars weekend at the Carolina Mudcats in Zebulon. The team has games Friday through Sunday. The team will pay homage to Princess Leia with a one-of-a-kind jersey that will be auctioned off to benefit Make-a-Wish Foundation of Eastern N.C. The team also will be giving out Star Wars-themed arm sleeves to the first 1,200 kids.
  • If you're a toy collector - or just love Star Wars - a trip to Crowemag Toys in north Raleigh or at the State Fairgrounds Flea Market is always fun. You'll find highly collectible Star Wars toys and gear here. There also are bins with Star Wars toys that are priced at $10 or less and are perfect for young fans of the series. Owner Larry Crowe tells me that he'll be offering 20 percent off anything that pertains to Star Wars starting Thursday through Sunday at his full-time location off of Lynn Road and this Saturday and Sunday at the flea market.
  • The Durham Bulls are out of town this weekend, but when they return, they'll host a Star Wars night on May 13. Costumed Star Wars characters will be on hand for a fun game against the Mud Hens.

May the fourth ... er, force ... be with you.
