MAXTON, N.C. — A Maxton man says a $100,000 lottery prize will allow him to replace the roof of his home damaged by Hurricane Matthew in October.

Ronnie Oxendine purchased his $5 Mega Bucks ticket at the Discount Tobacco & Market on East 4th Avenue in Red Springs.

"During the flood, I felt like something good had to be coming," Oxendine said in a N.C. Education Lottery news release. "I just felt that we gave so much to other people."

After taxes, Oxendine's winning ticket will give him $69,502. He claimed his prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.

“When I scanned my ticket and realized I won, I thought, ‘Is this really happening?’” Oxenside said. “I feel blessed to get this. We’ve experienced the bad. Now we’d like to experience the good.”
