Mass. man, NJ woman take home City of Oaks Marathon titles

City of Oaks Marathon

— Thousands of runners braved cool conditions Sunday morning to compete in the annual City of Oaks Marathon and Half Marathon.

The events, which began at 7 a.m., included a full marathon, half marathon, relays, a 10K race, 5K race and children's mile.

Runners started and finished on Hillsborough Street in front of N.C. State's Bell Tower.

Evan Vadenais, a 22-year-old from Millville, Mass., won the full marathon with a time of 2:36:56.

David Lyons, 33, of Seattle, won the half marathon with a time of 1:14:13.

New Jersey resident Caroline Veltri, 26, took home the women's full marathon title with a time of 2:59:27, and Gabriela Rocha, of Brazil, won the half marathon in 1:19:02.
