— A masked gunman assaulted a clerk and robbed a convenience store in the Moore County town of Aberdeen Saturday night.

Sheriff Lane Carter said that the gunman came into Mac Food Store, 735 Sand Pit Road, around 9:15 p.m. He demanded money from the cash register, hit the clerk with a handgun and fired into the counter.

After the clerk gave him money, the man ran from the store. Carter said investigators believe the man might have gotten into a vehicle parked nearby and had help from other people.

The man is described as black, approximately 6 feet tall, with a medium to dark complexion. He was wearing a red Anaheim Angels baseball hat, a hooded custom mask over his face, a white T-shirt, dark blue shorts and low-top Nike tennis shoes.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Moore County Sheriff's Office at 910-947-2931.

The Local Constables were too busy handing out tickets to folks not speeding in their friendly town, where by the way you can have it thrown out for improper equipment and only pay a fee of $308 to have it not show on your ins or dl.

Looks like a "hate crime to me" or was it just a criminal robbing an easy victim?

Talk is cheap. Had if been you - you would most likely be dead or calling someone to bring you another pair of pants.

Could be...I have never been there. But that is where the training and practice come in. Just like you don't forget how to run when a dog starts chasing you, you won't forget how to draw and pull the trigger. It should be 2nd nature if you train and practice enough and keep your wits about you. Some people can and some can't. You don't know until you are there. All you can do ahead of time is PRACTICE. Just because you play nice and do nothing doesn't mean they will "let" you live. And just because you are carrying a handgun doesn't mean you will pull it out and use it, but you should prepare yourself mentally to do so.

I am disappointed that the clerk was not armed in this incident and exercise his right to defend himself. What with hitting the clerk and shooting into the counter there is a lot of movement there. Should be plenty of time to draw and put 3 in the perp's chest. Get the proper training, purchase a reliable handgun, and practice often. If enough people do that then most perps will start to think twice about robbing places. The ones that still do it will get dealt with swiftly.

I hope this crook has to look down the other end of that gun the next time he robs someone. maybe he will get whats coming to him. The community would be safer and the state would save money.
