Marvel releases 1st trailer for 'Dr. Strange' starring Benedict Cumberbatch

SANCTUM SANCTORUM — Marvel is releasing movies at break-neck speeds these days and fans can't seem to get enough. Just the announcement of a new movie causes about as much excitement as the release of Burt Reynolds flick back in the 70s, so when a trailer comes out it's like the equivalent of a special two-hour "Magnum P.I." episode back in the 80s. I feel I've veered off track.
What I'm trying to say is another Marvel character has its own movie and we now have a trailer.
"Doctor Strange" stars Benedict Cumberbatch — or as I prefer to call him, Benefit Cumberbund — and this first trailer makes the movie look, well, strange. Let me rephrase that; if you don't know anything about Dr. Strange and his back story, then it looks strange. If you do know his story it looks really interesting.
Dr. Strange isn't one of Marvel's best known characters, but he is one of their most eccentric and interesting and Cumberbatch is a great casting choice. The 'Sherlock' veteran is a phenomenal actor and should bring both gravitas and humor to the role.
The trailer actually has a lot of insights into the character as well as nods to elements included in the comics like his broken hands, journey to the Himalayas and his eventual humility in front of The Ancient One played by Tilda Swinton.
The trailer has my interest thanks to some 'Inception'-like visuals, Cumberbatch and the promise of some black magic.
"Doctor Strange" is due in theaters on Nov. 4, 2016.
