Wake County school system's magnet and early college schools fair is set for 9 a.m. to noon, Nov. 7, at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School.

The fair is a chance for families to learn more about all of Wake's magnet and early college schools, meet representatives from each of them and ask questions about their programs and the application process.

This is a great first step for families as they start to navigate the process. Wake's website has an address lookup to find out the magnet options for each address.

Magnet schools also are hosting regular tours of their schools. Contact the schools to find out when they're offered and to sign up. Tours are a really important part of the process and offer a chance for parents and students to get a closer look and figure out if it's the right school for them.

The online application period for early college high schools, leadership academies and the Vernon Malone College and Career Academy runs through Dec. 14.

The online application period for magnet schools is Jan. 7 to Jan. 22.

Wake schools' magnet school website has more information about the fair, the tours and the magnet program.
