Mark Your Calendars: N.C. State's Farm Animal Days coming up
If you're at home with little ones during the week, make plans to head over to N.C. State's Farm Animal Days.
Posted — UpdatedThe annual event is very popular with groups - from school groups to play groups - and individual families. Kids, early grade schooler and younger are best, get a chance to see farm animals - big and small - up close. And then eat free ice cream!
I took my kids, when they were much younger, and we all absolutely loved it.
This year, the event is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., March 29 to March 31, at N.C. State's Beef Educational Unit, 4505 Mid Pines Rd., just south of Raleigh. The event is designed for groups, but individuals and families are welcome to attend.
If you want to beat the crowds, get there at either 9 a.m., just as it opens, or 1 p.m., when most of the groups have moved on. The whole thing takes about an hour to walk through.
Activities include touching chicks, turkeys, ducks, pigs, sheep and goats; seeing cows and horses; climbing on tractors; and eating free ice cream from Howling Cow, N.C. State's own ice cream.
There also is a grass area for picnics and quick, daily presentations where you can learn more about animals and agriculture.
