Mark Your Calendars: Grab your natural sciences museum membership discount

Posted July 9, 2014

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is one of 10 recipients of the 2014 National Medal for Museum and Library Science, the Institute of Museum and Library Services announced Thursday.

You might remember that we offered a discount on a family membership to the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh last month.

Well, that deal - $15 off the $70 annual membership - was so popular, we're doing it again!

On July 15, get a family membership to the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences for $55. All you need to do is ask for the "Go Ask Mom 5" special at the museum box office or museum stores or enter the code GOASKMOM5 when purchasing a family membership online. Again, this is good on July 15.

As natural science museum fans know, admission to the museum is free. So why pay for a membership? Here's why my family has been a member for the last couple of years:

Free admission to special exhibits including the current Rainforest Adventure, a fun exhibit for kids ages 3 to 12 and their adults. Members also can look forward to free admission to the next big special exhibit: The World's Largest Dinosaurs, which opens in October. Members can see these exhibits multiple times. My family has been to Rainforest Adventure several times.

Perks such as discounts on birthday parties; discounts and priority registration for summer camps (which I highly recommend); a discount at the museum store; special events for members; and hospitality areas at some of the museum's big events such as BugFest.

Free or discounted membership to more than 300 science museums around the world, which have come in handy more than a few times on my family's own vacations.

Also, your $55 family membership is fully tax deductible.

As you might imagine, I'll remind you about the deal as we get closer, but mark your calendar for July 15!
