Marines questioned in horse's shooting
An Onslow County horse owner called police after discovering that her animal had been shot in its paddock.

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — An Onslow County horse owner called police after discovering that her animal had been shot in its paddock.
Elizabeth Kachmor said her staff noticed Alderbaran, a 7-year-old Canadian Sport Horse, was wounded on Nov. 9. She took him to the North Carolina State University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital, where an X-ray revealed a bullet from a .22-caliber rifle lodged in the horse's liver.
Surgery was unsuccessful, and Aldebaran had to be euthanized.
Police found shell casings for a .22 in the driveway of the stable where Alderbaran was kept. They have questioned some Marines from Camp Lejeune.
No arrests have been made.
