Marine recruiter accused of sex crimes

Posted April 18, 2011

— A recruiter for the Marine Corps faces sex charges in an investigation prompted by text messages sent to Moore County high school students, authorities said Monday.

Mitchell Grant Autrey, 27, of 701 Sams Way in Aberdeen, was charged Friday with three counts of cyberstalking and one count each of statutory rape, indecent liberties with a child, sexual battery, felonious restraint, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and soliciting a child by computer to commit a sex act. He was being held in the Moore County jail under a $100,000 bond.

Moore County Schools officials contacted deputies last week about improper text messages being sent to high school students after school.

Deputies interviewed some students, and three girls, ages 16, 17 and 19, said that they were being stalked online. A 15-year-old student from Cameron told deputies that she had had sex with an older man who held her against her will.

    Horrible story.

One technical note though, a 19 year old is not a "girl".

Otherwise, hope this guy spends some serious time in the brig. What's worse is that he gives the whole Corps a bad name in some people's eyes and they will use that against the Corps in their propaganda which is a shame.

People should realize that he is a rogue and does not represent the values of the Corps. That is why they have Leavenworth and dishonorable discharge. The Corps represents honor and service with things like Toys for Tots and countless other outreaches and charities as well as protecting the nation.

I never was in the Corp but we had many close family friends who made it their lives and they were outstanding people .

Another problem with lowering standards during wartime

You can believe me that he is fearing the day he gets transferred to the brig. He is a prime code red candidate, Mans going to have to sleep with one eye open, as he should.

This is awful ... and, tragically, nothing new. GAO released a report in 2006 of widespread recruiter misconduct. This is the latest: http://www.gao.gov/htext/d10254.html Also, the AP reported on rampant harassment in '06 as well. Furthermore, women in the armed forces are exposed to perpetual harassment. It's totally disgusting, and leadership has done little to stamp it out. That's why so many women veterans suffer trauma from sexual violence while on active duty.

Obviously this jar head did not realize that "the few, the proud, the marines" did not mean being one of the few that prey on young girls and being proud of it.
