Correction to this story: This is a Navy Corpsman that was killed, not a Marine but either way...very sad.

    Rest in Peace Devil Doc

Sincerest condolences to the marine's family.

"bicycling in nc is very dangerous due to the lack of respect and courtesy shown by many many drivers in nc.... i should know i cycle every day"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are cyclists supposed to observe and abide by the SAME traffic laws as cars and trucks? Just wondering since a cyclist flat out, on purpose rode through a red as red can be light at Davis and Kit Creek this morning...and it wasn't by accident, believe me -- it was clear he had no intentions of stopping.

"Raleigh is supposed t be changing the laws regarding bike riding to make it safer......problem is how long is that going to take and how many more have to die first. " t watkinsntp

Err... well, it's already against the law to hit someone on a bike... how is another law going to help? Murder is illegal, yet it happens. Speeding, theft, forgery... all of these things have a law against them, yet they still happen.

But it'd be different with bicycles, right?

I saw a bicycle rider on Duraleigh Road today (busy 4-lane road), in blistering heat, without a helmet. He made me a nervous wreck! I guess it's his right to be out there without a helmet, but he appeared to be as irresponsible as some drivers!
