Marine from Camp Lejeune killed in Afganistan

A Camp-Lejeune-based Marine died Wednesday while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Thursday.

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — A Camp-Lejeune-based Marine died Wednesday while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Thursday. 

Lance Cpl. Edward J. Dycus, 22, of Greenville, Miss., died Feb. 1 while conducting combat operations in the Helmand province, Afghanistan. The incident is under investigation. 

Dycus was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
