Marine found dead in Lejeune barracks identified
Camp Lejeune officials on Monday identified the Marine found dead in his barracks room last week.
Posted — UpdatedCAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — Camp Lejeune officials on Monday identified a Marine found dead in his barracks room last week as Lance Cpl. Shawn O’Malley, 24, of Union, N.C.
Officials said there is no evidence of foul play, but the death is under investigation. A cause of death was not released, pending an autopsy.
O'Malley was an anti-tank assaultman assigned to 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division. He deployed to Iraq from April to October 2006 and his decorations include the Iraqi Campaign, National Defense Service and Global War on Terrorism Service medals.
He is survived by his wife.
