— A New River Air Station Marine has been charged for killing a high school student who was waiting at an Onslow County bus stop Monday morning.

Staff Sgt. Joshua Block, 27, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and felony passing a stopped school bus causing death, according to NBC affiliate WITN.

Authorities said 16-year-old David Palacia crossed the road in front of his house to catch his school bus when Block hit him. Palacio was a student at Dixon High School.

Troopers said two adults and some students on the bus saw the crash happen.

    How is the charge involuntary manslaughter?

    Involuntary means you can't avoid it happening.

    I would argue that the stop sign on the bus and the flashing red lights are your warning that you should stop.

    If you go past it, that is not an involuntary thing.

    Yes, I know it means killing unlawfully but not intentionally.

    However, I would still argue it was intentionally because he intentionally didn't stop for that school bus because he is too important to stop for it.

    Do not refer to this poor excuse for a man as a Marine any longer.

    The complete disrespect for school buses and their occupants is getting out of hand. Maybe the charge should be 2nd degree murder with no plea bargain option. There is no excuse for this. They're big, yellow, stop often and are full of children! This should never happen, anywhere!
