With a grant from the MetLife Foundation, Marbles Kids Museum will turn an ordinary staircase into a fun, interactive musical experience called StepNotes.
Design and production of StepNotes will begin in early 2016 and will rely on non-contact robotic sensors that detect feet, according to a press release. Software will filter and transform movement into musical notes as museum guests pass through the stairs. Each note will be accompanied by an interactive LED lighting feature to further amplify the guest experience, the release says.
It's scheduled to open in spring 2016. StepNotes will be in the southwest corner of the building (to the left upon walking into Curiosity Square). The stairs lead directly to Power2Play and the Art Loft.
“Marbles is excited to add a larger-than-life, physical music experience for our guests,” said Sally Edwards, president of Marbles Kids Museum, in the release. “Thanks to MetLife Foundation, we can amp up the fun in an otherwise utilitarian part of the building, while also encouraging children and adults alike to make a healthy choice and take the stairs.”
