For babies to young tweens, Marbles Kids Museum in downtown Raleigh is an absolute blast. But, once those kids veer into double digits, in many cases, the shine comes off it a bit.

In the case of my own girls, my seven-year-old loves the exhibit. My 12-year-old enjoys watching her sister have fun.

The folks at Marbles have seen this dynamic more than a few times. In response, they've recently launched the Innovation Play Lab, a workshop for older kids ages 8 and up.

You can drop your older kids off for the 45-minute workshops that are led by a Team Marbles play leader. The programs give older kids the opportunity to explore, in more detail, new materials and tools and learn new skills. Workshops are free with admission, which is $5 per person. You can find them in the Think Tank on the second floor of the museum.

They are scheduled next at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., Wednesday. They'll be making rubber band cars. To find out when others are planned, check Marbles' calendar and search for Innovation Play Lab.
