Marathon route takes runners through heart of Fort Bragg

Posted April 28, 2014

— Runners in Sunday's All-American Marathon will get a tour of Fort Bragg along the route.

The race, which begins at 6:30 a.m. in Festival Park in Fayetteville, winds through downtown, past the Airborne and Special Operations Museum and through the heart of the military post, said spokesman Tom McCullom.

"We're going to have equipment displayed. Runners are going to go by Pope Field. The aircraft will be out there," he said.

Several streets near the Festival Park will be closed to traffic Sunday morning, including Ray Avenue, Hay Street and a part of Person Street.

Sunday's events include the full 26.2-mile marathon, a 13.1-mile half marathon and a 5K.

Where are all the people crying about the roads being closed - people being able to get to church etc? It's a Sunday! How DARE they have a race. They were all over the place when an event was held in Raleigh on a Sunday- guess they went back under their bridges to wait for goats.

I wonder if there's as much pathetic whining down there about an event held on Sunday as there was in Raleigh.
