— One person was wounded Tuesday and a second could face charges in a hunting accident in Chatham County, authorities said.

The incident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. near the Farrington Point boat ramp at Jordan Lake.

Bob Shuller, 49, of Thomasville, was part of a group hunting deer and was struck in the neck and leg by shotgun pellets from another hunter's gun, according to an officer with the state Wildlife Resources Commission.

Shuller underwent surgery at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, and was listed in fair condition Tuesday evening.

Wildlife officers will consult with Chatham County prosecutors to determine whether to file charges in the case.

The incident was at least the second hunting accident in the state this month. Two weeks ago, a hunter killed a man in the Pisgah National Forest.

ghimmy51, It is the other way around. The ramp was built on gamelands by the Wildlife Resource Commission and paid for with hunting/fishing liscence revenue and the special taxes placed on hunting/fishing gear. Although the general public is granted full access it is to provide access for hunting/fishing activities 24hrs/day free of charge unlike the State Park ramps.

Buck shot to penetrate the skin would have to have been shot under 2 hundred yards. Killing effectiveness is max 100 yards and that with a hot 3.5 inch load.

So that means someone was hunting within 200 yards of a boat, ramp? something doesn't add up???

In my opinion, if you cannot tell a deer from a man, then the person has no business hunting. Lets see what the procecutor will do about this.

Who is the genius who put hunting lands near a boat ramp of a recreational area?

Obviously, if the WOs are talking with the county prosecutors, there is reason to believe that this is no accident.

It's interesting, though, that this is the second incident in less than a week involving men from Thomasville. One man was accidentally killed with his own gun, in Virginia, the other day.

Shot spread that wide had to come from quite a distance.

That's why I don't deer hunt the game lands around Jordan. You don't know who might be near you and someone might get shot.

It was probably deer hunting, alot of people go up to Jordan Lake and "man drive" (several hunters walk through the woods making noise to drive the deer towards standers, Chatham Co. dosen't allow dog hunting.) My husband was talking to someone last night that had been up there last week doing this.
